The Great Ocean Road
Drive one of the world's most scenic coastal touring routes, the Great Ocean Road, spanning 243 kilometres along the stunning coastline of Victoria's south-west. Take in the panoramic views as the road winds along cliff tops, up to breathtaking headlands, down onto the edge of beaches, across river estuaries and through lush rainforests. The Great Ocean Road starts at Anglesea and travels westward to finish at Warrnambol the largest city along the road. The road is two lane (one in each direction), and is covered by a speed limit changing between 40kilometres per hour and 100 kilometres per hour.
The Twelve Apostles
Witness the rugged splendour of the famous 12 Apostles, magnificent rock stacks that rise up majestically from the Southern Ocean on Victoria's dramatic coastline.The 12 Apostles are located 275 kilometres west of Melbourne, approximately a four-hour drive along the Great Ocean Road. Due to the harsh and extreme weather conditions from the Southern Ocean gradually eroded the soft limestone formations. there are now 8 remaining stacks.
Gibsons Steps
Take 86 steps down to the beach below to be dwarfed by the 70-metre high vertical cliffline. Walk along the beach to the enormous offshore rock stacks Gog and MaGog.
Loch Ard Gorge
Stand on top of the cliff and you'll be amazed at the sheer size of the cliffs and the narrow opening out to sea at the Loch Ard Gorge. In rough weather the crashing waves put on quite a show.
London Bridge
Witness London Bridge, originally a natural archway and tunnel in an offshore rock formation, however, it collapsed in 1990 and became a bridge without a middle.
Great Otway National Park
Immerse yourself in some of Australia's best rainforest scenery in the Otway Ranges amongst tall trees, ancient plant life and lush ferns. Walk among giant tree ferns at Maits Rest or experience the full beauty of the rainforest on the Otway Fly Tree Top Walk.
Discover high waterfalls in the national park's narrow valleys, ranging from the impressive Triplet Falls to secluded falls over fern-fringed pools. View the dramatic cliffs and secluded beaches along the shore at remote and beautiful Cape Otway.
Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch:
The Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch is located at Eastern View, just after Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road and approx 34km from Torquay. A little known fact about the Great Ocean Road is that it was constructed as a war memorial for soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. A number of monuments line the Great Ocean Road, which is recognised as the worlds largest war memorial and it was added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2011.
